A Year

Elysium - Coole Park, Ireland

Today marks the one-year anniversary of the passing of Rob Holdstock.

Those who knew and loved Rob continue to miss his humour and bonhomie.

After his untimely departure the ‘Rob Holdstock Memorial Fund‘ was started with The Woodland Trust to dedicate a section of woodland in honour of Rob’s life and writings.

The fund raised £3,761 thanks to the generosity of Rob’s family, friends and fans.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who pledged money to the fund.

After many discussions and site visits an acre of land in Victory Wood has been selected.

It’s a 140.26 hectares area purchased by the Woodland Trust in 2004, which is centred between the villages of Dargate and Yorkletts some 3 miles north of Canterbury, Kent, and lies in the North Kent Plain Natural Area between the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the Thames Estuary.

Rob’s acre will feature a bench with a plaque, and once they are in situ people will be able to visit. The exact location will be announced in approximately 16 weeks when the final details are arranged.

  1. Only today did I learn the passing of Robert Holdstock – I am deeply sorry for your loss. And for ours, as his readers. I discovered Mr. Holdstock with “The Broken Kings” trilogy, and was on my way to start and read “The Mythago” series.

Mr. Holdstock shall not be forgotten, certainly not by me who tried to make him known around me by fantasy readers.
